Counter replacement in SAP EAM

Counter replacement in SAP S/4HANA Asset Management is used when a physical counter is replaced but maintenance history must continue. SAP handles this by recording the final reading of the old counter and assigning an offset to the new counter so that cumulative values remain continuous. This ensures counter-based maintenance plans trigger correctly without losing historical data.

When a counter is replaced, SAP stores the replacement as a measuring document in IMRG marked with the counter replacement indicator. The measurement point in IMPT remains unchanged. SAP calculates offset and cumulative values internally, which are then used by maintenance plans stored in MPLA and MPOS to continue correct scheduling.
